Hello, and welcome to the home page for The Incredible Shrinking Fattie.  My name is Kristen and I began my serious weight loss journey in January 2008.  I woke up, got on the scale, and realized I was at my highest weight EVER:  375 pounds.  Not only was I at my highest weight ever, but I couldn’t keep up with my very active four-year-old son.  I quickly looked up my BMI and I was not only morbidly obese, but SUPER MORBIDLY OBESE.  I thought, SUPER…Super…super?  That super wasn’t earning me superhero status nor was I handed a cape.  It was a cosmic clue by four upside the head that I needed to do something.  I needed to stop dieting and make huge lifestyle changes not only for my health, but for my child and my family.

I began this journey by moving more, changing what I ate, and working on my relationship with food.  The weight began to come off slowly.  Then in March 2009 after losing 60 pounds, I had a major knee injury that ended in another one of those clue by four moments.  Not only did I dislocate my kneecap due to my patellofemoral syndrome and a patch of ice, but the xrays and MRI showed that the pain I had been experiencing prior to the injury was arthritis.  Osteoarthritis at 34 years of age?  My body was falling apart and my poor choices were sending me on a fast track to disability.  While I had lost 60 pounds and kept it off, it just wasn’t enough.  I was told by my doctors that I needed to get this weight of ASAP or I was headed for a wheelchair.  It was then that I began to seek information regarding Gastric Bypass Surgery.

So, here I am awaiting my surgery on September 1, 2009.  I have stopped eating sugar, drinking soda, drinking caffeine (even given up my precious coffee), and have begun seriously working out a minimum of four times per week.  Trust me when I say that weight loss surgery is not the easy way out.  It is simply a tool that you must utilize effectively by following a strict program and MAJOR lifestyle changes.

With this blog, I hope to share my journey with you in hopes that I can maybe help you change your life and give some insight in to this lifestyle.
