That’s a mouthful ain’t it?  So, in shopping for some sugar free goodness at my local ahem…Mart, I came across these cinnamony treats.  If you love coffee cake, you will love these.  Pretty moist with a dab of cream in the middle and lots of flavor.  They come in a box of 12 and two to a package, but one is really enough (for my taste and pouch anyway).  Here are the stats:

Serving Size 2 cakes, Calories 180, Fat 10g, Carbs  23g, and Protein 3g.

Not the greatest stats in the world, but damnit we are entitled to a tasty treat every now and again!  To limit oneself from anything that tastes good is to have an unhealthy relationship with food.

I can’t suck down anymore protein shakes! Protein is disgusting!

I can’t tell you how many times on various weight loss surgery boards I see posts talking about how someone says, “I’ve tried every protein powder and I can’t stand the taste,” “Protein shakes are disgusting,” etc.  Really?  You’ve tried EVERY type of protein?  Whey, soy, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, cinnamon roll…WHAT?  Did you just say cinnamon roll?  You bet I did.

One thing I did prior to surgery was try dozens of protein drinks.  I scoured the Internet, health food stores, and my regular grocery store for samples and single serving sizes.  I tried soy ones, hemp ones, whey ones, chocolate, rocky road, banana cream, and yes, even cinnamon roll.  One of my online friends, Nik (on ObesityHelp.com) gives the straight talk on protein shakes, “There is no excuse for drinking a nasty protein shake.”  Another, Pam has a list of suggestions for what to do regarding protein shakes and shoots that “I’ve tried every kind of protein” excuse out of the water.

Nik and Pam are right.  First of all, you can’t possible have tried EVERY protein supplement out there.  I literally tried nearly 60 and STILL hadn’t tried EVERY protein supplement available.  Secondly, with regard to protein shakes being “disgusting,” what have you done with them?  Have you tried them cold, warm, blended with ice, added flavors to them?

I’m going to be blunt here.  It’s only your limitations that prevent you from finding a protein you like.  Out of the hundreds upon hundreds of protein supplements out there, there is going to be one you can tolerate.  And, tolerate you must.  You need to start thinking of your protein supplementation as medicine.  You don’t stop taking your heart pills simply because they have a funny aftertaste do you?  The bonus with protein shakes is that you have options…thousands of options.

To help you along, here are some sites that are great about selling sample sizes of protein:

In addition, try stores like Vitamin Shoppe, Vitamin Cottage, Whole Foods, Kroger, etc. who often carry single serving packs you can buy.

http://www.drinkclick.com/When all else fails dear readers, do a search on Google.  That’s how I found the sources for my protein.  Oh, and I typically use Body Fortress (available at Wal Mart in Chocolate, Vanilla, Cookies and Cream, and Strawberry for under $15 a tub) and Click (http://www.drinkclick.com/).  I will get others when my wallet allows it.
